Is it right for you?
Pick a screen room if the thing standing between you and your backyard is bugs rather than cold. It is wonderful from May through September and honest about November — screens stop rain coming straight down but not wind-driven rain. If you want the shoulder seasons too, look at a three-season room, which starts as this and adds panels that close.
Screen now, glass later
Several manufacturers build screen rooms that accept sliding vinyl panels as a retrofit. If there is any chance you will want a weather-tight room in a few years, say so up front — we will specify a frame that takes the upgrade instead of one that has to be replaced.

Screen Rooms FAQ
Will it keep the rain out?
Straight-down rain, yes — the roof handles that and the screens let it drain. Wind-driven rain will come through the mesh, which in Seattle means a few genuinely wet days each winter. A three-season room with sliding panels solves that.
What about wasps and spiders?
Tight-mesh screening keeps out everything larger than a no-see-um. Spiders will still build on the outside of the mesh, same as they do on your windows.
Can we put a heater in it?
A plug-in patio heater, absolutely. We deliberately do not install permanent heat in a screen room: under Washington's energy code, a room with no permanent heating system is exempt from the envelope requirements entirely. Installing fixed heat reclassifies it as conditioned space and triggers a very different permit.
Bronze or white frames?
Bronze reads almost as shadow and tends to disappear against trees and darker siding. White is brighter inside and suits traditional or light-clad houses. We bring samples to the site visit and hold them against your actual wall.
